A heavenly little guardian who brings light and warmth to your home. This abstract angel figurine, made of smoothly polished soapstone, radiates a wonderful, profound sense of comfort and security.
The sculpture captivates with its gentle shapes and large, protectively outstretched wings, whose feathers are subtly suggested along the edges. In front of him, the angel holds a small, round holder for a classic tealight, lovingly and securely clasped in his hands. Since the stone is left completely natural and unpainted, it reveals its pure beauty: its warm, earthy base color, ranging from delicate pink to rich rust tones, is threaded with fine natural flecks and marbling. Each of these little celestial beings is lovingly hand-carved and gently rounded in Kenya. Thanks to nature’s variations in the stone’s structure, every piece is a truly unique, one-of-a-kind creation.
I simply had to include such sweet little bringers of light in my collection! This angel makes a thoughtful, comforting gift—perhaps as a personal guardian angel for someone dear to you. And for me personally: after an evening spent lovingly tending to my exotic plants, lighting a candle in this holder brings a wonderful sense of calm. It looks utterly enchanting as a glowing, watchful companion right beside your seedling pots or the lush green leaves of your favorite houseplants!
The soapstone products come from Tabaka, Kenya, a place with around 10,000 inhabitants, about 25 km from Kisii. Soapstone (steatite) is a soft natural stone. Its colors range from white, gray, and yellow to reddish tones, sometimes with beautiful veining. The raw material is mined locally in quarries. The carvers are independent artists, each specializing in a particular product category. Their tools include chisels, knives, scrapers, and sandpaper. The final sanding, washing, waxing, and polishing are usually done by women in the family. The fact that each piece is 100% handmade accounts for variations in shape and color.
