Elephants are considered wise, patient, and gentle animals—traits we often wish for in our hectic everyday lives. This droll little elephant figurine brings that very sense of calm into your home in a wonderfully cute, compact form.

The smoothly polished sculpture captivates with its soft, rounded shape, complete with short little legs, a small tail, and a trunk gently curved downwards. Since the soapstone remains completely pure and unpainted, the material reveals its own unique, natural beauty: the base color in delicate, warm rose tones is interspersed with fine, darker speckling. Each of these little animals is hand-carved in Kenya using traditional methods and softly rounded, making the elephant a true tactile delight. Due to the individual structure of the raw stone, each piece is an absolute, unmistakable one-of-a-kind item.

Such handmade companions have an honest, grounding aura, so I simply had to clear a little space for them among all my plants! The figurine is a charming, thoughtful gift to bring a little joy to someone or to provide a bit of comfort. And as a little decor tip: this small pachyderm feels especially at home among your favorite houseplants, perhaps watching over a seed tray with rare seeds or decoratively placed on the surface of a custom-mixed substrate.

The soapstone products come from Tabaka, Kenya, a town with about 10,000 inhabitants located approximately 25 km from Kisii. Soapstone (steatite) is a soft natural stone. The color of the stones varies between white, gray, yellow, and reddish tones, sometimes streaked with beautiful veining. The raw material is extracted locally in quarries. The carvers are independent artists who each specialize in a particular product range. Tools used include chisels, knives, scrapers, and sandpaper. The finishing, washing, waxing, and polishing are usually carried out by women in the family. Being 100% handmade, variations in shape and color are inevitable.
