A true marvel of resilience straight from the vast expanses of Asia: Caragana microphylla combines delicate aesthetics with absolute hardiness. This deciduous ornamental shrub from the continental climates of Siberia and Mongolia impresses with its delicate, finely pinnate foliage and a true sea of bright yellow butterfly-like flowers. With a compact growth height of 1.0 to 2.0 meters, this densely and bushily growing exotic fits perfectly into any garden design. It is not only a visual highlight but also scores as a valuable insect pasture and a natural nitrogen supplier for the soil.

Seed preparation: Lightly roughen the seeds with sandpaper and then let them swell in room-temperature water for 24 hours.

Delicate contrast and intense sea of blossoms
The particular fascination of this species lies in its fine foliage, which gives the shrub a very elegant and light structure. From May to June, the plant then transforms into an intensely yellow eye-catcher that magically attracts bees and bumblebees. Afterwards, the characteristic small seed pods form, to which the pea shrub owes its German name.
Location and absolute ease of care
If you are looking for an undemanding plant, you will definitely find it here. A spot in full sun is the absolute optimum for this survivor. As for soil conditions, there are virtually no restrictions – sandy, poor, or very dry soils are tolerated without problems. Once the plant is firmly rooted, it withstands long, hot drought periods in summer without any effort. It must only be protected from waterlogging.
Extreme winter hardiness down to -30 degrees
The harsh climatic conditions of its homeland have made this shrub unshakable. Icy temperatures down to an impressive -30 degrees Celsius pose no problem whatsoever for outdoor specimens – winter protection is therefore completely unnecessary. Young plants kept in pots should only have their pots insulated somewhat in the first few winters so that the root ball does not freeze completely. Towards autumn, the shrub sheds its leaves, enters its well-deserved dormant phase, and sprouts vigorously again next spring.
