A touch of Jurassic Park for your home
The undisputed highlight of the Mild Ray Aralia is its spectacular foliage. The deeply lobed leaves can reach considerable sizes as they mature, giving the plant an incomparable, primeval elegance. This dense canopy is supported by strong shoots, which can be covered with distinctive spines, especially when young. As an architectural structural plant, it forms the perfect centerpiece in your collection and immediately brings a dramatic, exotic atmosphere.

Choosing a location and proper care
As a native of Asian mountain forests, Brassaiopsis mitis loves partial shade. You should definitely avoid direct midday sun, as the huge leaves can quickly burn. The soil should be nutrient-rich, humusy, and well-drained. Keep the soil evenly moist, but be sure to avoid waterlogging – the fleshy roots do not tolerate it at all. A light layer of mulch on the soil helps retain moisture and simulate the perfect forest climate.

Wintering and cold tolerance
Despite its extremely tropical appearance, this species originates from the Himalayan mountain regions and boasts surprising cold tolerance: the plant can withstand brief periods of frost. Older, well-established specimens can even survive light frosts outdoors in very mild regions with strong winter protection. Even if young plants can handle short frost spikes, I recommend a cool and bright place for safe overwintering (e.g., a winter garden or a bright stairwell at approx. 5 to 10 degrees Celsius). It is completely normal for leaves to drop in winter. The plant enters a dormant phase during the cold season and sprouts anew in spring. During this time, you should significantly reduce watering and allow the substrate to dry out slightly between waterings to prevent root rot. Fertilizer is not necessary during the winter break.
