The Reserva Biológica da Mata Escura is located in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais and is part of the Atlantic Rainforest (Mata Atlântica). The name translates to "dark forest" and refers to the extremely dense, shady canopy of this strictly protected area. It is a true biodiversity hotspot and home to countless endemic species. Overwintering and cold tolerance
Due to its Brazilian origin, this rarity tolerates absolutely no frost. As soon as temperatures drop in autumn, it must be moved indoors. A bright, moderately warm place in the house or in a heated conservatory at about 10 to 15 degrees Celsius is ideal for overwintering. During this time, the plant takes a short break. You should then reduce watering accordingly and always let the soil dry out slightly before watering again. You can completely forgo fertilizer during the winter months.
