Each of these plump little hearts is hand-carved in Kenya with great devotion from natural soapstone and then lovingly painted. The smooth, rounded shape makes them wonderful worry stones and every piece an absolute one-of-a-kind.
I have added these colorful works of art to my shop because they radiate so much warmth and positivity. They are the perfect little gift for a loved one, a faithful lucky charm, or simply a radiant accent for your home.
The soapstone products come from Tabaka, Kenya, a town with about 10,000 inhabitants located approximately 25km from Kisii. Soapstone (steatite) is a soft natural stone. The color of the stones varies between white, gray, yellow, and reddish tones, sometimes streaked with beautiful veins. The raw material is mined locally in quarries. The carvers are independent artists, each specializing in a specific product category. Tools used include chisels, knives, scrapers, and sandpaper. The fine-tuning, washing of the stone, waxing, and polishing is then usually performed by women in the family. The 100% manual labor results in differences in shape and color.
