This heart-shaped soapstone box shines in a wonderfully vibrant, multicolored stripe design of bold yellow, warm red, and bright turquoise. The lid is decorated with lovingly hand-painted white stars, playful squiggles, and abstract black ornaments, giving the little chest its own unique, dynamic character.
Each of these boxes is hand-carved in Kenya from natural soapstone using traditional methods, polished smooth, and then painted in such vibrant colors. This makes every piece an absolutely unmistakable unique item with a very special, positive aura.

The soapstone products come from Tabaka, Kenya, a town with approx. 10,000 inhabitants located about 25 km from Kisii. Soapstone (steatite) is a soft natural stone. The color of the stones varies between white, gray, yellow, and reddish tones, sometimes streaked with beautiful veins. The raw material is mined locally in quarries. The carvers are independent artists who each specialize in a specific product range. Tools used include chisels, knives, scrapers, and sandpaper. The fine finishing, washing of the stone, waxing, and polishing are then usually carried out by women from the family. The 100% handmade process results in differences in shape and color.
