This makes it a fantastic, extremely low-maintenance houseplant and a perfect candidate for bonsai cultivation. In container or indoor cultivation, it remains significantly smaller, with a height of 1.5 to 2 meters, and grows pleasantly slowly. The bottle tree loves a full-sun and warm location, and in the summer, it also enjoys being outdoors on the patio. The substrate must be extremely permeable and mineral-based – ideal is a high-quality cactus soil that I mix generously with pumice, perlite, or lava grit. Since the trunk stores large amounts of water, its water requirements are very low. Thorough watering is only necessary again once the substrate has completely dried out. In winter, the plant must be kept frost-free, in a bright location at approximately 10 to 15 degrees Celsius, while watering should be almost entirely discontinued.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\n\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eUses and special features:\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/div\u003e\n\n\u003cdiv\u003eVisually, the tree is impressive not only for  its bulbous trunk but also for its foliage, which undergoes an amazing transformation over the years: young plants develop deeply lobed, almost finger-like leaves, while older specimens bear simple, elongated leaves. Historically, the tree was of immense value to the Indigenous Australians. During extreme droughts, they would tap the trunk to drink the stored, slightly sweet water, eat the nutritious roots of young plants, and roast the seeds. Its natural distribution is limited to the dry interior of the Australian state of Queensland.
